Next (Sales Consultant)
(May-September 2016)
I worked for Next as a Sales Consultant from May to September 2016 - leaving when I moved away for University. Here, I learned the bulk of my retail knowledge. I practiced constant customer service, be it advising a customer on style enquiries, locating stock (be it in the stock room or on the shop floor), ordering in stock, or serving the customer. I am now fully till trained and can complete transactions confidentally whilst holding up warm, polite conversation with the customer. Working at Next gave me the confidence I needed to strive in the retail industry, and am now fully able to complete tasks in the most competent method.

Hobbies & Interests
I am a passionate filmmaker and I regularly create film both in my own time and on my University course. When I am not creating films, I am visiting the cinema to see both new releases and older films which are often screened at one-off events. I try to visit the cinema at least once every week or two, so I am able to keep up with the most recent films, both Blockbuster and Independent. There is never a bad time to watch a film in my opinion, and this is clearly reflected in my attendance to midnight screenings at cinemas such as Vue, and to “Classic Film All-Nighters” at the Tyneside Cinema in my hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne. I create films both alone and with friends, reflecting that I am highly capable of working both alone and in a team.
I have also completed a workshop with the British Film Industry (BFI), where I not only recreated classic film scenes, but I also visited the Glasgow Film Festival in 2014, where I was able to watch films from 1939 and 2014, thus vastly broadening my horizons. I also visited London with the BFI Academy, where I spoke to indsutry professionals at Universal, Picture House, Empire, Double Negative Studios and Three Mills Studios. The employees at these locations taught me what it is like to work in such a vast indsutry, leaving me inspired to work within retail, another largely significant industry.
I also attend discussions at the Tyneside Cinema, where I have the opportunity to speak to members of the industry, both amateurs and professionals. The most recent event I have attended was to speak to the creators of “Video Jam”, a creative music based creation. I also previously attended a talk at Vue in Trinity Square, where I listened to the creator of Raindance Film Festival as he described his journey into the industry.

Personal statement
I am a conscientious and hardworking student who strives for success in everything I do. I am enthused by working in a team, be it in a workplace or on a film set, and am eager to be involved within a likeminded group of people. Going above and beyond for the consumer/customer is my main goal, and I will strive to ensure not only the customer’s needs, but beyond their expectations.. My most recent employment experience taught me a strong element of working within a team, and I am confident that I can strive when working with others in order to complete whichever goal we face.
I am currently studying at Manchester Metropolitan University. Being a student, I face strict deadlines, most of which is also independent, student led work. Working with film most often transaltes to working in a group. This has led me to learn to strive best when working in a group. I can now confidently segregate tasks between myself and my teammates, ensuring that our individual skill sets compliment our tasks. Being a Director in my most recent film, I am confident in approaching potential consumers, actors, customers etc. On film shoots, I often an requested to make it to a shoot or an edit fairly early in the day - resulting in me being a very punctual individual. I am eager to not only complete a job, but impress the consumer to ensure they would request my help in the future.
Key Skills
Passionate individual who is eager to be part of a team.
Good understanding and knowledge of both Microsoft and Apple programs.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Confident personality, comfortable approaching customers and clients.
Keen filmmaker who not only makes films in my free time, but as part of previous projects, including with other Filmmaking students, and the BFI Film Academy.
Till trained.
Employment History
Next (Summer Temporary Sale Support Team)
(July 2017)
I worked for Next as a Temporary Sale Support Team Member during the month of July. Thanks to my previous employment with Next, I was able to help in store in many more ways than my first temporary employment with the company. Instead of only being able to help customers in a limited style, I was able to fully serve a customer in the same style as a full time employee. Similarly to my Sales Consultant position, I ordered in stock, served customers, provided style advice, worked on the fitting rooms and overall provided the customer with a warm experience.

Next (Christmas Temporary Sale Support Team)
(December 2015)
I worked for Next as a Temporary Sale Support Team Member during the month of December. Here, I was able to gain valuable experience from working in retail. During my time at Next, it was my role to remove security tags from items that were to go in the sale, add new, updated tags to the sale items whilst working alongside a large group, and transform the entire store within a small time frame in a large group. This taught me how to work within a team in employment. I also workED on the official ‘Sale Day’, quickly recovering items which had been discarded to the floor by customers. I also regularly interacted with the customers and answered whichever questions that I was able to. This experience introduced me to retail, and now that I have experienced this type of employment, I am eager to return.

Colegate Community Primary School (Work Experience)
(2011)
I completed my Comprehensive School Work Experience at Colegate Primary School. I chose to work here as I knew that a wide range of tasks would be asked of me, and I wanted to set myself up for the challenge. Not only did I work with the members of staff at the school, who requested jobs of me and for me to run errands, from photocopying to taking down wall displays under strict time constraints and busy environments, but I also had first hand experience working with children. Here, I would sit with them and teach them about the current events at the time, such as the upcoming 2012 Olympics. I would also encourage them to become involved in reading and other educational activities. I feel that this would help me in a workplace such as a cinema, as a vast range of customers are attracted here, from elderly couples to young families. I feel that this experience helped teach me how to fully communicate with children, and that this would greatly benefit me when working in such a strong family based environment.
