Inspiration From Guest Speakers - James Bridger

[A minimum of two x 200 word reflections on what you have learnt from any of the Media Talks Guest Speakers (#1) ] On 9th January, I attended a talk with James Bridger, a lighting technician who has worked on several critically acclaimed productions, like Black Mirror, Game of Thrones, This is England, and many others; clearly having an extensive list of successful experiences. Being a fan of some of the productions Bridger has worked on, I was keen to attend his talk. Listening to him recalling different positive experiences throughout his career was highly inspiring. Nothing was handed to him without effort on his part. It felt motivating to hear how he gained these experiences from having nothing. In the beginning, he didn't have countless contacts offering these roles; he brought them upon himself. Commission from an Ancient History Student

[One x 300 word reflection of a minimum of one live brief, work experience project, external commission, third year student project or opportunity you have engaged in related to your filmmaking practice that you have undertaken that is not part of your other units.] In November, I was approached by two Ancient History Undergraduate students from the University of Manchester, looking for a Filmmaker to help organise bringing an idea of theirs to life: a Horrible Histories Musical remake. I offered my help, in return providing me with transport costs, food costs whenever we met, and future projects. We met up very regularly to discuss creative ideas, budgets and possibilities. I decided to help out as I hadn't much experience in pre-production, deciding this would be a good place to try.
